Job Description

The Backend Developer will be responsible for building server-side logic, APIs, database systems, and integrations for mobile and web applications. You will work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and designers to deliver fully functional digital solutions.

This role requires strong problem-solving skills, excellent backend architecture knowledge, and hands-on experience with Laravel and/or Node.js.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend systems using Laravel and/or Node.js.

• Build RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.

• Develop scalable database structures and optimize queries for performance.

• Collaborate with mobile and frontend teams to integrate user-facing elements with server logic.

• Ensure security best practices, authentication, authorization, and data protection.

• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code.

• Troubleshoot, debug, and fix backend issues.

• Maintain documentation of backend architecture, endpoints, and processes.

• Participate in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.

• Optimize application performance and reliability across environments.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Backend Developer or similar role.

• Strong proficiency in Laravel (PHP) and/or Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript).

• Solid understanding of backend frameworks, MVC architecture, and API design.

• Experience with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.

• Familiarity with caching systems (Redis, Memcached).

• Strong understanding of authentication & authorization (JWT, Passport, OAuth, etc.).

• Experience integrating payment systems (Flutterwave, Paystack, Stripe) is a plus.

• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD tools, and modern development workflow.

• Ability to work independently and remotely while meeting deadlines.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred / Bonus Skills

• Experience with microservices or serverless architecture.

• Knowledge of Docker and containerized deployments.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, DigitalOcean, or GCP.

• Familiarity with WebSockets and real-time communication.

• Experience building scalable, high-traffic systems.

• Understanding of unit testing and automated testing frameworks.
